For because of this you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing. Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed. Romans 13:6-7
It is a crazy time with the coronavirus affecting most everything, even the date that taxes are due. A friend who does taxes for a living is not happy with the tax filing date moved to July 15. Normally, today he’s about done with work for the year and ready for a vacation. But he will survive.
The tax system is very complicated. People are responsible to figure out their own tax liability. For many years I’ve had a tax profession do my taxes. Because, to be honest it scares me a little. Romans 13:3 says, “Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good…” I am thankful for the form of government God has given us. The way to continue to enjoy the blessings of this nation is for us to “do what is good”.
God’s Word tells us what is good even in regard to taxes. As long as obeying the rules of man, that includes our government, employer or any other who has authority over us, do not cause us to disobey God, we can do what is good and be a blessing without fear, because we know God is ultimately in charge.
