Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
The current pandemic has a grip on the US and the world. It is no telling how long before new treatments, vaccines or immunity will break its hold. God knows!
After trying to navigate a “drive through” recently, I saw feelings of road rage but also, curtesy and patience. When shopping, there’s still empty shelves for paper products, milk, bread, etc. The panic buying is apparently beginning to relax, yet there were way many more people at store at just after 9am than I thought possible. The masks and social distancing just make things seem weird.
Experiencing this pandemic has reminded me of my time in the Navy. We would go ashore in some ports and it would not be unusual to see people obviously fearful as they scurried along the roadway, people begging, picking pockets, selling and men with automatic weapons carefully watching the people and the cars passing by. There were no superstores and they never saw grocery shelves as full as ours on the poorest pandemic day. That has given me a little insight into how much I take for granted. I have had a quiet, sheltered, upbringing and a sense of security living in the United States. But more important, I have received the peace that Jesus gives to those who believe in Him.
I have a renewed thankfulness for the peace Christ gives. Because in spite of the threat of illness or worse. I know my life is in God’s hands. Do you know God has true peace for you in Christ. Peace the world can’t take away.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, in these days may I experience Christ presence and His peace. Renewed my desire to talk to You about everything and spend time in the Your Word.
